    Thursday 20th June

After a fortnight's fun in the sun it was time for us to say goodbye to Florida and return to sunny Scotland.

We left the villa at about 10 and went for breakfast.

    Arriving

And then it was off to the airport to come home.
Flight home was fine,I basically slept for most of it.
Food was actually ok and the films were good [The Bucket List and Toy Story]Landed back in the UK at about 7.30am and headed home for a nice long nap :))

Overally family holiday this year was fantastic. We got to see and do everything at all of the theme parks and the weather was great, hitting a high of 108 degrees Fahrenheit on our last day.Now I'm back for the last week of school before we break up for the summer, good timing or what?!My favourite days were the days we visited the Universal Parks separately and my favourite rides were Sheikra,The Hulk and watching the makeup show.So to wrap it up,here's some other pictures that didn't make it in to any other of my posts.

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Fourteen

    Wednesday 18th June

Last day of the holiday. We went to Seaworld's Waterpark,Aquatica.

It was made out to be really good with slides going through tanks with dolphins in them and a lazy river going through a fish grotto.

    Well.

What a disappointment it turned out to be. The dolphin plunge we waited an hour on and it was over in a matter of seconds,no dolphins to be seen.Plus it burnt my elbows it was that fast. The lazy river was a mess and the 'grotto' was one wall with fish that looked stoned,if there can be such a thing.

There was another river though that was reeli fast which was good. And the wave pools were good.

Didn't go on any of the other slides as the queues were too long.

    Oh,and I also got burnt.

So all in all,not the best last day ever.

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Thirteen

    Tuesday 17th June

Went back to both Universal themeparks.

    Done the Simpsons ride first.

    Photobucket

Then watched the horror make up show again

    Photobucket

Then went back on the MIB's ride, after which we bumped into some characters in the Hollywood Area.

    Photobucket

    Photobucket

    Photobucket

    Photobucket

    Photobucket

    Photobucket

After a few encounters we went and rode Shrek 4D again and done the Jimmy Neutron ride then wandered over to Islands of Adventure.

Here we got caricatures done, which I'm not posting pictures of as they are really embarrassing. Then we went to the Lost Continent area of the park and went through the Poseidons Fury thing where you go through these caves and it's like your getting lost and Poseidon's gonna kill you.

    Photobucket

    Photobucket

Then it was back on the Jurrasic Park water ride.

    Photobucket

Then we went back on Spiderman and The Hulk.Spiderman broke down whilst we were on it so thankfully we'd been on it before.

Then I went on a ride I'd refused to go on every other time we've been there;Dr Doom's Fearfall. It shoots you straight up I don't know how high then just lets you drop again.I figured though, since I'd already done Sheikra, which I never thought I'd do,I might aswell do this.

    Close Up

    From A Distance

I was so scared at the start and screamed all the way through, but it was really good. Then we went on that another two times. After that we took our wobbly legs back to where we got our caricatures done and picked them up and my mum and I went on the cute Cat in the Hat ride to finish things off :))

Then we headed out to Universal's City Walk and visited the Hard Rock Cafe for our dinner.Nice food, great atmosphere. One of my fave resteraunts we visited.

    Great day. 10/10

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Twelve

    Monday 16th June

Excellent day, although very tiring.Got up and went for a buffet breakfast at the Golden Corral. Then we made the hour and a half or so journey to Tampa Bay to visit Busch Gardens themepark.

First we went on the wooden rollercoaster Gwazi. We waited an hour for it and it was the roughest rollercoaster I've ever been on.If any of you have ever been on the big rollercoaster at the back of M+D's in Strathclyde,it's about 3 times worse than that for hurting your head and neck.

Then we went on a rollercoaster called Kumba, which was really good.

    Photobucket

It was an excellent ride, very smooth. We went on it twice as there was no queue.

Then we went on the Safari ride which was really good, although the driver was irritating.

    Photobucket

Then we went for food and watched some show about music and then walked to the other side of the park to take the skyride back over to Kumba.

Done Kumba another couple of times and then I done what I never, ever thought I'd do:I went on the ninety-degree,200 foot drop Sheikra!

    sheikra

Utterly terrifying the first time on it,but it was amazing.I was so scared when they hung you over the edge for 5 to make you look at the drop.

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=RqN2zD6bRcw

One of my favourite rides ever.[The vid is worth watching by the way even though it doesn't make the drop seem that big, though you can see by the pic above that it is.And also,it's floorless now so your feet are hanging. If you don't want to watch all the intro stuff,go to 1.32]

After going on another two times, including once at the front,we wandered to the other side of the park to go on the last coaster on the day,Montu which was also pretty good though my head was totally spinning afterwards as it had sooo many twists and turns.

Overall this was another fantastic day. 10/10

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Eleven

    Saturday 15th June

Another lazy day.Dad took me out to buy presents for my friends in the morning.I got the girls anklets and the boys keyrings. Then he dropped me off back at home and I just lazed around and sunbathed all day.

    7/10

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Ten

    Saturday 14th June

Went shopping and bought LOADS of stuff.I got two cool T-shirts,one green Snoopy one that says boogie down on it and has a big stereo and one with chocolate, normal and strawberry milks that says celebrate diversity :)) I also got a pair of Converse[s?].They've got all different patches of stuff on them, they're pretty cool and very 'me'I think.I also got a big bottle of Cool Waters perfume and a big bottle of Be Delicious perfume. My favourite purchase of the day though was a new ipod :D 8GB,blue and only $200!Thats the price of a 4GB one at home so I was happy :)

My mum bought a few perfumes for herself.
My brother bought some aftershaves and trainers.
And all my dad got was a Tshirt.I don't know why.We offered to get him aftershave for father's day but he didn't want it.

Great day.Very happy with my new ipod. 9/10

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Nine

    Friday 13th June

Another lazy day.Didn't do much apart from watch telly and sunbathe.Went for a nap as I still had a sore head from yesterday and then woke up to go out for tea.

    Another average day 5/10

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Eight

    Thursday 12th June

Lazy day.Spent most of it watching tv.I had a bit of a sore head all day.Took a tablet, which didn't work.We went out for a meal at night and then came home and played cards.

    Average day.5/10

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Seven

    Wednesday 11th June

Went to Universal Studios today. It was fantastic!

    Photobucket

First we went on the new Simpsons ride, which they knocked down Back To The Future for.

    Photobucket

Was good though nothing special. And not worth the hype made about it.

Then we watched the Fear Factor Live show. Was ok but the presenters were too cheesy and the challenges weren't anywhere near as good as those you'd find on any episode of the show.

Next we toddled onto the Men In Black ride. Was fun although the machines counting how many aliens you'd shot were broken so we didn't get our actual scores.

    MIB

That's the flying saucers outside the MIB ride btw.

After that we went on Jaws.It was excellent and I still got frights when the shark came out of the water, even though I know when it comes up.The queue was short and I love how the staff, even though they're just operating a ride all day,are so enthusiastic and cheery. You wouldn't find that anywhere in this country. In this country it would be some spot-faced teenager sour-puss operating it and not even talking to you.

    Photobucket

Next we watched the show Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue. It showcased all of the classic Universal Monsters in a spectacle of rock music and pyrotechnics. Was pretty good,if slightly cheesy.

Next we went on the ride that replaced earthquake,Disaster. Was the same ride but a different pre-show that got the audience involved with making a movie called 'Disaster'.Which they showed you the trailer for at the end of the ride, including your reactions on the actual ride. Was pretty good.

By this time we were in the New York section of the park so we stopped for a refreshing frappacino at Starbucks and then my dad and brother went on The Mummy ride whilst my mum and I took a look at the New York scenery.

    Photobucket

    Photobucket

When my dad and martin came out of The Mummy we all went on Twister. Not overly impressive, though better than I remembered so I must have found it really rubbish last time.

After that we went into Shrek 4D,which was better than I remembered it being, before walking back round to the Hollywood section of the park.

    Photobucket

Here we went on the Terminator 3D thing, which I still didn't like. [3D is NOT my thing]. We also watched a Hollywood Horror Make-Up show which was both hilarious and interesting. It was a definate highlight of the day.

Last, but not least as I love this ride,we done ET.No queueing for an hour this time to get on,we just walked straight onto our bicycles and flew ET back home :))

Then it was time to leave to go for dinner and go home.

Overall another great day as we got on all the rides and seen all the shows with no waiting for ages this time. 10/10

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Six

    Tuesday 10th June

Lazy day.My period started. It never fails!Every holiday I've been on for the past 4 years it's came!Even on weekends away!I felt really, really ill.Worse than I've ever felt on a period before.I spent most of the day in my bed washing back paracetamol and trying to get to sleep.

Overall a pretty rubbish day, well for me anyway,I don't know about the rest of my family.
    4/10

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Five

    Monday 8th June

My family and I headed to Universal Studios:Islands of Adventure on this day of our holiday.

    Photobucket

We got straight onto the two rollercoasters in the Duelling Dragons attractions with no wait.We went on fire first which was a very twisty, turny coaster and then walked, well as best as we could with spinning heads, straight onto the ice coaster. These rollercoasters are great because it's meant to be like the dragons are fighting [hence the name] and you come within inches of the other coaster when you're riding one.Very thrilling.

    Photobucket

Then we went on the very small coaster next to the dragons called The Flying Unicorn. It's for kiddies but my mum liked it because she doesn't come on the ones that go upside down :))

After that we headed into the Jurrasic Park area of the theme park.

    Photobucket

    Photobucket

There's lots to see and do there including a great water ride that takes you through some lakes where dinosaurs live and then almost into the mouth of a giant T-Rex.I'd not gone on this ride the last couple of times we'd visited the park,I found it great fun.

After visiting the dinosaur discovery center where we watched a baby dinosaur hatch,we headed to the Toon Lagoon section of the park.

    I met Betty Boop:

    Me&Betty Boop

And we took lots of pictures of the funny things in this area of the park:

    Photobucket

    DadandMe-ThoughtBubbles

    Me&WeeMan

    MartinThoughtBubble

Then we stopped for something to eat

    Photobucket

After a munch we went on a water ride and got utterly soaked! Was really fun though.

Then we went to the Marvel Superheroes bit of the park and went on the Spiderman 3D coaster and the Hulk coaster.Got on the Hulk twice as there was basically no wait, unlike last time when we waited 90 minutes to go on it and only got on once.

    Photobucket

    Spiderman Entrance

    Photobucket

The Hulk Coaster. It shoots you right out of it instead of clicking slowly up.Fun Stuff!

Then we headed home and lazed around for the rest of the day.

    Absoloutely Fantastic day! 10/10

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Four

    Sunday 8th June

Woke up at 7.30,which I was pissed about as I'd intended on having a long lie after the busy day at Sea world the day before.I lazed around watching telly for about two hours.I discovered a new-found hatred for advertising, take a look:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=del_c1CNE0A

Then, after seeing around 8 different incarnations of the above advert,I headed out to sunbathe.

Just lazed around all day and read most of the new Darren Shan book. Was pretty good.

Then we went out for a meal to the Black Angus Steak House.I had the best burger I've ever had. Then headed home and read the rest of the Darren Shan book which turned out to be not just pretty good but AMAZING.

    Another relaxing day. 7/10

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Three

    Saturday 7th June

Got up at 8 and had a big breakfast. Then we headed out to Seaworld.

    Photobucket

When we arrived we watched the Sea Lion show 'Clyde and Seamore Take Pirate Island' which was hilariously funny and took place on a pirate-ship set.

    Photobucket

After that we went on the fantastic rollercoaster Kraken.(You can see it a little in the last picture.Turquoise with a train going up it at the back)It was my first rollercoaster I ever went on when we were in Florida last time and then it was my first ride this year aswell.I loved it,as I did before.

    Photobucket

We were pleased to discover that the waiting time was a short 10 minutes compared to the,on average,60 minute queues we encountered last time we were in Florida.I was so nervous going up it but then as soon as it dropped I felt great again as the memories of last time came flooding back.

After going on that we watched the Shamu show.Exceedingly cheesy and Shamu was only out for about three minutes, the rest was smaller less interesting killer whales.

    Photobucket

After that we went on the simulator ride Wild Arctic.Me and Mum sat in the back row because they said that thats where the most motion was.I've never felt so dizzy coming off a simulator.

Next we wandered off to watch the Dolphin show.It was fantastic and had tropical birds, acrobats dressed up in stunning costumes and great videos along with the actual dolphins.Definately the best show there.

    seaworld

    Photobucket

Then we watched this circus type thing. Was good but I remembered all of the acts from last time so wasn't too impressed this time round.

We then headed back to Kraken and rode that another couple of times before joining the slightly longer half-hour queue for the indoor water-coaster Journey to Atlantis. It has a big drop at the end where you get soaked and I remembered hating it last time but this time round I actually enjoyed it.

    Photobucket

My hair was protected with the aid of an oh-so-attractive poncho lol.

After riding Kraken once more to dry off we got some food at one of the resteraunts before heading home.

I was utterly shattered.I don't know how we done it for a fortnight straight the other two times we were there.

This was an amazing day with lots of beautiful things to see and do and so gets 10/10.

    Photobucket

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day Two

    Friday 6th June

Woke up at 8.30,9ish and had breakfast. Then sunbathed, swam and relaxed all day.Went out in the afternoon to grab food and some pool toys. Not an overly eventful day but really relaxing.

    Photobucket

    Photobucket

    And yes,we had a hot-tub.
Not that we needed it hot in the high-nintey degree weather that we had every day.

    Photobucket

So overall, although not very eventful, because it was relaxing, this day gets 8/10.

  • Globe Trotting - My Florida Journal 2008 - Day One

This year for our family holiday my mother, father, brother and I jetted off to Orlando,Florida for the third time for a fortnight's fun in the sun. This series of blogs will include pictures, videos and my overall thoughts of each day of my holiday. So here we go,Day One:

    Thursday June 5th

Got Was harshly woken up at the astonishingly early hour of four am and left at four forty-five.Once everyone was in the car and we'd locked the gates and driven off down the road,my mum realised that she hadn't remembered to buy and pack our shampoos, conditioners or any other kind of toiletries. My dad was annoyed but done a U-turn and carried us to Tesco where my mother invested in a good supply of toiletries for the holiday and quickly stuffed them in one of the cases. Then it was off to the motorway and Glasgow Airport.

Once we arrived at the airport we got checked in surprisingly quickly but then had to hang around the airport for a couple of hours until we were due to board. We got some breakfast and then stopped at WHSmith to invest in some magazines.I chose the mindnumbdingly,oh so interesting OK magazine and the 'You should be thinner, wear this, wear that, this is cool, have sex' Cosmopolitan.

The flight itself was quite good. For a supposedly 'no frills' airline, they handed out a lot of free stuff - free earphones, free sweets when taking off and landing and lots of free drinks all throughout the flight. The food was,as is expected of airplane food, dull, stodgy and tasteless. It came under the name of tomato pasta but didn't have a taste closely resembling tomato. The croissants we received shortly before landing were a bit better though.

The flight felt to me as though it passed in three hour sections. The first three were fine as I slept quite a lot.The middle three were a disaster as I had a bit of an embarrassing problem.I dunno if I have a shy bladder or what it is because this is insanely stupid but I couldn't pee.I was dying on a pee for two and a half hours but every time I went to the toilet,I couldn't pee.Its not as if people can even hear you on a plane or anything.Bet you're glad I let you in on that piece of interesting information.Anyway,I managed eventually. The last three hours of the plane journey just dragged and I had a headache and felt sick.

They were showing two films on the flight:27 Dresses and Dumb and Dumber.I wanted to watch the first one but unfortunately couldn't as the sound things weren't working on our side of the plane.

I was pretty cold all throughout the flight as,against the recommendations of my parents,I hadn't brought a jumper as we were going to be landing in sunny Florida where it would be hot so a jumper would just be in the way.Not at 20,000 feet or whatever it is,when you're freezing, don't have any form of in-flight entertainment and are just trying to get to sleep it isn't.So to anyone who's going on holiday this summer,no matter how hot a destination you're headed to:TAKE A JUMPER! or you'll be freezing your arse off on the plane.

We finally landed after numerous non-understandable messages over the intercom from the captain which I think were about time and temperature and all that jazz.Isn't it always so hard to understand the captain when they speak through the intercom? The cabin crew are fine, unless they're speaking at a million miles an hour, but the captain,I can never understand.

We got our luggage and rental car quickly and then headed off on the journey to find the villa, which took more than a little while.By the time we got there,I was shattered but my mother insisted that there was no point going into the house and unpacking before we had bought any water or food.So we headed off to find Walmart, which was, surprisingly, just down the road.I've never been in a shop so huge.Take the Asda-Walmart in Livingston and times it by about three and then you're maybe just about there. It was massive.Anyway,we stocked up on neccessitys, including lots and lots of Ben and Jerrys lol,and then headed to the place we'd be calling home for the next fortnight.

After a quick nap [it was only mid-afternoon there by this point] I jumped straight into the pool.

It was the perfect temperature. It was such a relief to swim after not being able to,so to speak, because of my hair for the past year and a half.It felt so good. That was one of the things I was looking forward to the most about this holiday, finally being able to swim again after not swimming at home for fear of bumping into anyone I know.Having a private pool was great.

Ordered in some sub-way like sandwiches for dinner and then fell straight to sleep in my own, very comfortable, double bed.

    6/10 Day.
The non-stop traveling brought this day down a bit.But the house and the pool were great once we found them.

  • Alice,Alice...Who The ...*Ahem*

My media studies class just watched a rather creepy version of Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures In Wonderland'. Jan Svankmajer's 'Alice' was very creepy.
Everything from socks to pieces of meat were animated and this strange animation was combined with a bit of live action to create a surreal and overall spooky effect.

Despite it's weirdness and intensely annoying and dull repetitive closeups of badly dubbed lips,I quite enjoyed it.

It's very different from the Disney version, which is good as Disney just cutifies everything.I think it captures the book much better than the Disney interpretation did and I think this is perhaps more how Carroll intended it to be.

Still,I eagerly await 'Alice' starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and also Tim Burton's interpretation of this classic tale, due for release in 2010 if I think correctly?

    Over and out.
    ....said the white rabbit:))
