Hey all. After seeing Hannah Montana, much to my distain,I happily managed to go see Coraline last night. And in 3D aswell.Great, and here's why...

The 3D works fantastically. As with 'Nightmare Before Christmas' Henry Selick is all about the visuals, and the use of 3D makes this a truly magical watch. It's so interesting visually that I forgot completely about my fear of 3D (any of you who experienced Animal Kingdom's 'A Bugs Life' at a young age will understand my pain). It just really makes you feeel as though you're in the action, and that it's happening right amid the audience. It makes it look more like puppets performing on a stage rather than action happening on a screen.Really honestly fantastic. And I've no concern for this transferring badly to dvd which will undoubtedly come with those annoying blue and red glasses that are extremely inneffective, because to watch this in 2D would be just as magical.Selick has done a fantastic job on this part.

The music,if you've read Coraline, sounds exactly how you'd imagine it should. There score gives a greater feel of magic to the visuals, working perfectly with them. It's a great listen and extremely interesting and unique.

My main criticism is that there doesn't seem to be that much emotion, other than when Coraline crys for her parents when they're trapped.Aside from that,it doesn't explore the anger that Coraline has in the book over her parents not paying any attention to her,and this is important as it is the main reason she loves the other mother so much.In the film it is made to look as though she loves the other mother merely because she showers her with nice food and surprises.

A fantastic film overall though.Very, very interesting to watch and listen to.It really can be enjoyed by adults and children alike, although I'd say that very young children might find some parts a little frightening.Truly a magical film.

I'd say 9/10.

Until Next Time
