Hey all, hope you're well. Well I officially failed on this blogging daily project after exactly twenty nine days of continuous daily blogging. One day short of a month! But - I do have a good excuse. Yesterday I was at Stiling Uni open day all day and then came in with a migraine, woke up and threw up, then forgot all about blogging because I was feeling ill. So that's why my record has been ruined. So in this blog I'll cover yesterday and today.
YESTERDAY
Yesterday morning Mum,Dad and I set off to explore Stirling University, as on paper it's my top place to go. We set off about 9am and after arriving and registering, we settled into a carefully planned (by me) schedule for the day. It went something like this:
Introduction to the University talk
What I got from this was there's a lot of flexibility in terms of choices and you can take modules from pretty much any subject in your first two years before settling on your degree subject properly in third year. This is to give you the chance to change your mind, which I like.
Accommodation and Catering talk
In words it sounded great, the tour later on however made it seem less so. I was put off a bit by the fact that they didn't give you any prices in their talk, but further investigation reveals for your basic room its gonna be about £80 a week. A little steep for what we later were given a tour of....Catering - you feed yourself or pay pretty high prices for the on campus eateries.
Study abroad talk
One of the main things that made Stirling appealing to me was the opportunity for most of the degree choices to study abroad for either a semester or a year. They've got options to go to lots of places in Europe, as well as places further a field like Austrailia and Canada. From what I gathered, you pay the flight but when you get there you basically only pay as much as you would if you were here. So if your fees get paid here - your fees will get paid there. However, that means you'll be paying for accommodation, but I assume you get guaranteed accommodation in the Uni as an international visitor. So that is a really appealing option for me.
Film,Media and Journalism Studies talk
As this is the department I'd be studying in, this is the department whose talk was top of my list to hear. From what I seen there is a great opportunity for you to do practical work, along with a lot of flexibility to pick up modules relating to the career you're looking to get into. The guy who gave the talk was very passionate about the subject, knew what he was talking about in terms of technology and seemed very friendly. The head of the department was also friendly,if a little quiet. It just looked like a very well run and appealing department in all ways.
Tour of campus and accommodation
Well the guide was awful. He moved too quickly, not waiting for the line of people behind him to follow and spoke so that nobody could hear him. The halls themselves looked like prison blocks, both inside and out. But I suppose you can't expect five star luxury. They were liveable and I'm sure with some of my own pics and posters, a wee room there would look fine. I just expected a little more for your money.
Overall, the Uni measured up to my expectations and after seeing it is still my top place to go. It's incredibly beautiful aswell. Stunning trees and hills all around, aswell as being situated round a lake. It's really breathtaking. We kept seeing rainbows all day and my mum was like "this is a sign you've to come here Megan!" haha. I was thinking that too though....
As you've read above, the rest of yesterday consisted of a migraine and sickness so not much else to report.
TODAY
AM
CHURCH was great today. Would've been more enjoyable if my throat wasn't killing me and I could stop coughing for more than five minutes. Jamming session afterwards was good fun, and it was good to sing some newer songs. Looking forward to singing them in church sometime soon. Also got the news today that two more people have come forward for Baptism, so now there's three of us
PM
WORK was also pretty good today. A bit hectic because of stock take, but not bad. Met two of the Christmas Temps - Sarah and Joe. Joe was really lovely and reminded me of Eric a bit. And Sarah was ok, though seemed like she didn't really want to be there. Pizza before stock take was good aswell. And then counting, counting, counting for a couple of hours wasn't too bad. All in all. a good day today.
My my mum has Uni on the brain, and I'm slightly worried about how we're going to pay for it all. But oh well, people do it every year I suppose. Its just we're about a thousand pounds above the line where you get any help with anything, so I'll be getting like the miminum of financial support.. It's always been the same.
I'm away for an early night, got another busy week planned and then it's getting ready for Paris and off we go! It's only like twelve days to go now!
Moment of the day: Mum getting up and singing with us on stage
Question of the day: Is two jobs to try and pay for going away for Uni a stupid/bad idea?
Until next time
